Dans la brume, je m’égare
At the invitation of his friend Piero, composer Cardinale was commissioned to create music for the debut performance at the newly established theatre, dedicated to a midnight ballet. This work serves as both the opening stage presentation and musical accompaniment, portraying the protagonist’s journey at the witching hour—swallowed by mist and descending into a fantastical, shadowy underworld. The piece pays homage to the aesthetic vision of the Ballet Royal de la Nuit while incorporating narrative imagery from La Divina Commedia.

Lyrics
Amidst the mist, I wander astray,
Enshrouded, adrift in ceaseless sway.
The fragrance oppresses, a sweetened chain,
Binding my breath in silken pain.
The shadow engulfs my trembling frame,
An endless search, without a name.
The light rends my soul with piercing blade,
While the void allures in gentle shade.
Each step descends as a fatal fall,
Within this labyrinth, frozen, tall.
Silence beckons with voiceless breath,
Agony guides me on paths of death.
The night devours with ravenous art,
Consuming the marrow, the soul, the heart.
I yearn for deliverance, fleeting and vain,
From this abyss without end or chain.
